Turkish Resorts

Turkey, straddling two continents, is blessed by its position, as it perfectly reflects cultures from both the East and West in one beautiful country.

With a rich history, Turkey abounds with historic sites and archaeological wonders set in beautiful landscape. The Mediterranean coastline is punctuated with well-preserved Greco-Roman cities such as Pergamom and Ephesus, while the austere and rugged Anatolian plateau has cave churches hidden away in the improbable fairytale landscape of Cappadocia. Istanbul, still very much the pulse of the nation, has even more to offer, with Roman aqueducts, Byzantine churches and Ottoman mosques and palaces.

Most visitors concentrate on Western Turkey, with its picturesque resorts along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, scenic and recreational attractions, well-preserved archaeological sites and fascinating museums that bring its rich history to life, however, if you want to simply unwind, spend an afternoon being pampered at a hamam, or let the warm waters off the Mediterranean coast lap at your toes.

Wherever you venture in Turkey there is a guarantee of a warm welcome and traditional hospitality, making this a deeply satisfying country to visit.

Bodrum – Aegean Coast
The Aegean Coast possesses some of the most spectacular and significant of Turkey’s archaeological sites with a rich cultural legacy from early Greek, Roman and Ottoman civilizations. The ancient cities of Ephesus and Troy are permeated with the past, where amphitheatres, chariot-rutted streets and columns reek of historical importance. It was here that St Paul laid the foundations for the beginnings of Christianity, and where the face of legendary beauty, Helen of Troy, ‘launched a thousand ships’. Besides historical attractions, the Aegean is known for its magnificent coastal scenery and long stretches of sandy beaches, where pine trees and olive groves clad the hills surrounding popular resorts like Bodrum and Kusadasi. Inland, the calcium-rich mineral springs that surge over the edge of a mountain plateau at Pamukkale form Turkey’s leading mineral spa and is one of the most celebrated natural attractions in the area. The city of Izmir, once famous for its figs, is today the modern capital of the region, and a major port and busy commercial centre, with good hotels and restaurants.

Dalaman – Mediterranean Coast
Dalaman and the Mediterranean Coast of Turkey is an area of immense beauty, located between sea and mountains and blessed with amazing scenery, golden beaches, turquoise waters and pine forests.

Dalaman’s benefits from its close proximity to areas of interest both historical and geographic interest and is rapidly becoming an area of destination due to recent investments in the Airport, road ways and the continuous development of the area is making it more accessible. However, over development of the area is stopped by the protection afforded to the rare loggerhead turtles that frequent the river and beach. This should ensure that Dalaman continues to develop in harmony with its surrounding environment and retain its natural beauty.

The town itself has many shops, restaurants, bars and tea gardens and is growing quickly due to the investment in the area. Dalaman also has its own huge natural beach, although not overly commercial ‘yet’ it is still pleasant and hosts lots of wildlife and the town is ideally situated for lots of resort areas but perfect if you prefer a quieter place to base yourself.

When visiting the Dalaman area make sure you visit the Dalyan. Enjoy the Kaunos archeologist site and see the carved tombs in the limestone mountain while cruising along the Dalyan River when you reach the shore, walk on Iztuzu Beach. The area is world’s 6th most famous beach; it is 6 km long and enjoy the sea turtles (caretta-carrettas).

Istanbul
Istanbul is a unique and fascinating city, stretching across two continents; the old city in Europe and modern Istanbul in Asia, which perfectly combines the cultures of the West and the East.

The location on the water made Istanbul a coveted site, as capital of the Roman Empire, Constantinople, as it was known, became extremely desirable as a centre of world trade. After the War of Independence the capital was moved to Ankara, but Istanbul still remains the commercial, historical and cultural heart of Turkey today.

The charm of Istanbul is in its endless variety and a fascinating history that has left the city with Byzantine ruins, splendid palaces, ancient mosques and churches. Modern Istanbul exudes trendy bars, nightclubs, western boutiques, office blocks, and elegant suburbs. The numerous historic buildings, art galleries and museums offers visitors with more than enough to see during the day, but it’s at night that the place vibrates with energy.

Locals and visitor alike are flocking to an array of bars, clubs and restaurants, bringing with them an infectious sense of joie de vivre and a discerning ability to judge these places on their standard of service, drinks, music and food.
